2009 Tournaments and Events

Our tournaments, now open to all Stanford faculty/staff and alumni with playing priveleges, are designed to provide fun, friendly competition for players of all levels. Lunch is almost always included, prizes for about 1/3 of the field are awarded, and players are grouped into flights by handicaps. Men's Club members also have many opportunities to play at other private clubs.

as You Find It
$20 Play the great Stanford course in a setup unlike any you'll ever see. Unique pin positions and tee locations lead to new challenges on every hole. The format is a 4-man scramble with teams paired by the committee to create even teams.

Stanford Golf Teams
with Members
$40 Play with current men and women varsity golf team players in this special event that pairs one golf team player with three members playing with their handicaps. You're in for a treat in being able to play with some of the nation's best young golfers, some likely to be on future professional tours. Stanford Open
Entry Form & Info
$40-$110 Open to non-members, this event is the only golf tournament available to the entire Stanford community --- men and women members, faculty and staff, alumni and students. Compete as two-person teams in a net best ball event where members can invite their Stanford affiliated friends to play. Individual low gross men's and women's champions will be recognized as well. Past champions since 2003.

Senior Exchanges
$75-95 For those age 50 and over, a series of 12 friendly home and home matches are played with 9 other Peninsula clubs for more than 20-30 Stanford players per match. Other clubs are Sharon Heights, Half Moon Bay, Los Altos, Peninsula, Green Hills, San Jose CC, La Rinconada, Boulder Ridge and Almaden. 2009 senior exchange schedule. President's Cup
NCGA 4-ball Qualifier
$80 This is our first "major" of the year. Come play in our annual net better ball format for the President's Cup and you also have a chance to represent Stanford Men's Club in the NCGA or Senior NCGA 4-Ball Qualifiers.

Father-Son/Daughter
$55/person You are invited to celebrate Father's Day with your son, daughter, grandchild, daughter in law, son in law, or your own father. This event is often over-subscribed so sign up early.

12 Stanford players compete with full handicaps in team matches, tentatively against Olympic Club, Green Hills and Half Moon Bay for the right to continue in Northern California's biggest competition. Winners go to Poppy Hills for regional competitions.

Summer Invitational
$110/person This popular event allows each member to invite a guest to play our great course at a very reasonable rate. The competition format varies for each day of play with lunch served daily and a "tee prize" given to each entrant.

Peninsula Challenge at

$90 20 person teams from 4 Pensinsula golf clubs compete in this event that is played at one of the clubs each year. The clubs are Stanford, Green Hills, Palo Alto Hills and Los Altos. This year Stanford is hosting the event where the entry fee includes a cart, greens fee and lunch.

$55-$75 This important "major" event features individual net and gross competitions to determine our senior and super senior club champions and the individual Director's Cup net winner.

Club Championship** $40 Semi-finals and final matches to determine the Stanford Club Champions in scratch and handicap flights. A scratch flight is open to all members who wish to qualify while others are grouped into flights by handicap. To play in the scratch flight, alumni members must play in a minimum number of tournaments as indicated below **.

Fall Invitational
$110/person This second men's invitational allows each member to invite a non-member guest to play our great course at a very reasonable rate. The competition will be a variation on a two-person best ball format.

Beat the Pro
TBD Beat the Pro is a great way to come out and challenge the Stanford Golf Pros to a round of golf. Many of your friends from the Pro shop will be playing in this tournament. More details to come.

Lucky 13
$35 This very popular event returns with a format that allows two-person teams to throw out 5 holes during the round. Holes must be thrown out after they are played so good strategy is a must and the pressure mounts as the round draws to a close.

Annual Dinner
$30 The Annual Dinner held at the Stanford Faculty Club features a special guest speaker, presentations by the men's and women's golf coaches and annual awards.

* Entry Fees - Subject to change. Except for the Stanford Open, estimated entry fees do not include faculty/staff or alumni greens fees for non-members.

** Club Championship (scratch flight) - Alumni and faculty/staff pay-as-you-go members are eligible in the scratch flight only if they have satisfied one of two participation criteria: (1) Participation in at least two 2009 club tournaments (Senior Exchanges do not qualify, and the Lake Merced and President's Cup two-day events each count as a single event) through the June 21 Father/Offspring Tournament. (2) Participation in at least three club tournaments during the period 1/1/2008 through 6/21/2009, including at least one 2009 tournament. As always, alumni and faculty/staff pay-as-you-go members will be required to pay their usual green fees.
